The Weizmann Institute of Science
The Weizmann Institute of Science is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary basic research institutions in the natural and exact sciences. It is located in Rehovot, Israel, just south of Tel Aviv. It has a long history of investigation and discovery rooted in a mission of advancing science for the benefit of humanity. In parallel, it educates a substantial proportion of Israel’s scientific leadership and advances science literacy in schools and among the public.
Following in her parent’s footsteps, who were longstanding supporters of The Weizmann Institute, establishing the ‘Hilda and Cecil Lewis Professorial Chair in Molecular Genetics’ and the ‘Hilda and Cecil Lewis Solar Laser Development Laboratory’ among many other projects. Cathy Wills was a member of the International Board until November 2024, she is currently a Global Ambassador.
Cathy and her brother Robert Lewis have supported the Yatir Research Station, lead by Prof. Dan Yakir of the Environmental Sciences and Energy Research Department in the Faculty of Chemistry. Impressed with the work being done there, they provided the necessary support to bring the Biosphere Atmosphere Research Mobile Lab to life. The lab is designed for studying the atmosphere and its interaction with the biosphere. It is a state-of-the-art mobile laboratory, equipped with a traditional eddy covariance flux system and a controlled set-up allowing the use of analytical instrumentations under laboratory condition for additional and auxiliary measurements. It offers unprecedented flexibility and mobility for scientific research, extending the range of research into ecosystem studies.
